Peanut sauce in a noodle-way

My big love to peanuts and eating peanut butter with a spoon is nothing really new. A few things make me happier then a pack of Reese’s… So when I read that Chinese Xiamen is somehow known for peanut dishes, I didn’t wait long. Let’s give it a try!


It was a nice change from the cold North of China. Xiamen is a bit of a holiday city, with a pleasant promenade along the sea, good seafood and charming Gulangyu island packed with colonial villas. Trees are blossoming in the sun and warm weather makes it all a bit lazy, with crowds of students wandering around the town. An enjoyable place it is.


And when it comes to peanuts: it wasn’t the famous peanut soup that made me really passionate. Quite accidentally my friend and I entered one of the small hole-in-the-wall shops where they served noodles. Just another place of this kind, I thought. But what they actually offered was just insane: noodles in spicy peanut sauce! Thin egg noodles were delightfully covered with thick peanut sauce mixed with chillies adding some flavourful spiciness. It all was well balanced, sweet and simply delicious. A hassle-free lunch dish, isn’t it? With some self-made peanut sauce, of course. Stay tuned for that one!
